All-American Bowl 2023

Dates: Monday, January 9, 2023

Time: In Progress

Eight recruits rated 3 stars or higher will make their college football decisions Saturday at the 2023 Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio.

According to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports, six class-of-2023 recruits will make a college commitment during the game: athlete Jelani McDonald, athlete Mikal Harrison-Pilot, wide receiver Malik Elzy, cornerback Tyler Scott, athlete Jamari Johnson and offensive tackle Caden Jones.

Those six players will be joined by a pair of class-of-2024 recruits making their decisions in edge-rusher TJ Capers and safety Peyton Woodyard, although neither of them will play in the game since they are both still high school juniors

The game will be played at eight different stadiums throughout the country: Dallas, New Jersey, Phoenix, Seattle, San Francisco, and Minneapolis-St. Paul, Pittsburgh, and Newark. There are only five players allowed on the field at any time during play: one quarterback and four running back or wide receivers.

For the 2022-2023 season, the All-American Bowl will feature a two-round playoff to determine the national champion. The first round will be between eight teams from six divisions of eight teams each. The second round will be between the remaining eight teams, competing for a spot in the championship game at one of the host stadiums.

The All-American Bowl was originally conceived by businessman and former professional football player William H. Kirkpatrick, who worked with and then sold the concept to International Management Group, Inc., in February 2004. The All-American Bowl was created as a way of providing an ongoing association between high school football players and the NFL during the off-season. It was funded by a $100 million commitment from IMG founder and CEO Mark McCormick, who was also committed to underwriting any losses incurred by the event.

On November 11, 2007, it was announced that IMG had secured a ten-year agreement with Nike to become the game's presenting sponsor and that IMG would assume sole ownership of the All-American Bowl. The following month, it was announced that IMG had secured agreements with the National Football Foundation (as the game's presenting sponsor) and several of the participating bowl games to serve as Official Sponsors of those respective bowls.

In conjunction with its agreement with IMG, the NFL announced that it would become the Game's Technical Advisor beginning in the 2009 season. On May 17, 2009, representatives from more than 40 different colleges, high schools, and youth programs were invited to attend a "Bowl Camp" at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. The camp served as a way for NFL and college coaches to evaluate high school talent and identify future players, who might be invited to play in the All-American Bowl.

On March 6, 2010, it was announced that the inaugural All-American Bowl was tentatively scheduled for January 2, 2011. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

2011 All-American Bowl high school football was played at noon on January 2 at TCF Bank Stadium (formerly known as the Metrodome). The game featured teams from UTEP (Ranked #6 in USA Today's preseason poll) and Ole Miss (Ranked #14). This was the first year of the game played at a neutral site. It was the first time college coaches were allowed to attend, and it marked the first time that high school teams played on January 2.

In December 2010, it was announced that Oregon State's Autzen Stadium would host the game on January 5, 2013. It was set to be played between #7 Oregon State and Pittsburgh's Central Catholic High School (ranked #9 in USA Today). However, due in part to low ticket sales and an inability to secure a title sponsor, Oregon State backed out of hosting the game after only one season.

On April 26, 2012, it was announced that the inaugural All-American Bowl East game had been moved to U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The game was set to pit two teams from Pittsburgh's Central Catholic High School against each other. The Panthers took on the Raiders of Central Catholic High School (ranked #9 in USA Today).

2013 was the final year for the All-American Bowl, which had been plagued by financial problems over the previous three years, including a lack of a title sponsor and low attendance at games as well as at their fantasy camps and combines held throughout the year. The 2013 edition of the bowl was played on January 4 at noon EST in the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

2014 was the final year of the All-American Bowl and it had a losing record. The game was also moved back to December and played at Statesmen Stadium in Twin Falls, ID. The game featured the College of Idaho vs. Utah's Skyline High School (ranked #10 in USA Today).

Oregon State initially decided to sponsor the event from 2011 to 2013 but backed out after one year due to low ticket sales and an inability to secure sponsorship for the game's naming rights. The bowl was meant to be played on a neutral site, but could not find a venue willing to offer the game a title sponsorship.

The game returned in 2014 with Pac-12 conference member Oregon State University as the title sponsor and with Feld Entertainment as revenue sharing partner. The game was played in downtown Minneapolis in U.S. Bank Stadium on December 19, 2014, against the University of Utah's Skyline High School, which was ranked #10 in USA Today's preseason poll and featured former Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray.

For the 2015 game, both teams will play on the same field at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota at noon ET on December 17. The game's host school will be announced soon.

All-American Bowl East

The All-American Bowl East was played in Richard Sherman's hometown of Lakewood, California on December 6 and featured the University of Washington St. John Bosco Dragons (ranked #8 in USA Today) against the University of Southern California Trojans (ranked #13). The Trojans were led by quarterback Sam Darnold and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown but were defeated  28-12 by Bosco High School Saints for their first-ever road win in a national title game.
